It is the third in a series of dams on the Peace River, working in conjunction with the W.A.C. Bennett and Peace Canyon dams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project includes an earth-fill dam approximately 1,050 metres long and 60 metres high, a generating station with six turbine-generator units, and an 83-kilometre-long reservoir. It is designed to produce approximately 5,100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, which is enough to power the equivalent of about 450,000 homes per year in B.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Power to the People - 3 x 500kV Drone Stringing at Site C with Infravision and BC Hydro\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DMpeSnmtI8M?start=3&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-timeline-amp-status\">Timeline &amp; Status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-tw-checkmark\">\n<li>2010:&nbsp;Project announced by the B.C. government.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2014:&nbsp;Environmental approvals received from federal and provincial governments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2015:&nbsp;Construction began in the summer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2024:&nbsp;Reservoir filling commenced, and the first generating unit came online in October.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>August 2025:&nbsp;The sixth and final generating unit came online, making the dam fully operational.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The dam is now fully operational. Remaining work includes completing the powerhouse, paving access roads, and site restoration. The two largest contracts were for the main civil works and the generating station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main Civil Works Contractor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This contract, which included the construction of the earth-fill dam and diversion tunnels, was awarded to&nbsp;<strong>Peace River Hydro Partners<\/strong>. This consortium included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada Inc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Samsung C&amp;T Canada Ltd.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Generating Station and Spillways (GSS) Contractor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This contract covered the civil works for the powerhouse, penstocks, and spillways.
